Algal Blooms on Engraulidae (Sardines) in Marina Del Rey, California by Kristin Hori

Question: How does the length of exposure to sunlight affect oxygen levels in an ecosystem where algal blooms are prevalent?

Abstract: I hypothesize that an increased amount of sunlight will lead to faster growth of cyanobacteria. This algae depletes the oxygen levels in the water resulting in quicker and more numerous Engraulidae deaths. I propose to set up multiple aquariums each containing equal amounts of cyanobacteria culture. Then I will place Engradulidae collected from the local Marina Del Rey, California in each tank.
