To start off, Chuck was an over achiever and a hardworking man. He set high goals for himself and completed them. However, instead of speaking over typical kinesiology topics such as, exercises or health issues, he spoke about the management, ownership and work behind purchasing or dealing with sport stadiums.
He started as a political science and soon switched over into law school and became a lawyer. His first real shot with sports stadiums was in 1994. In 1994, he had the opportunity to represent a man who wanted to purchase the Pittsburg Pirates for 90 million dollars. However, Chuck didn’t give up, he put together a business plan, went around looking for investors, and finally purchased the Penguins. The process sounds smooth and easy but, it took him years to receive the experience and the network connections. For example, Chuck had the amazing opportunity to meet Mark Cuban. Mark Cuban is known for being one of the best businessman, and investor. Chuck spent a couple of days with Mark, despite his admired personality, Mark and Mario, his business partner at the time did not get along well and Chuck helped them discuss their differences to realize they were better off separate. After Chuck helped Mark, he became the go to guy for troubled franchises. At this point chuck was becoming recognized and well known for his work. Some time, the co-owner of Pittsburg Pirates called him and asked he would like to purchase the team himself, this was a big decision for Chuck and he did say no a couple of times, but he finally gave in and decided to buy the team. Over the course of the summer they worked out a deal and everything was set.
