The sci-fi novel ‘Boom!’ was published in 2009 by Mark Haddon to enhance the previous “draft” book, which was published in 1992 by him. The previous version of Boom was named ‘Gridzbi Spudvetch!’. One of the main reasons that Mark Haddon rewrote this novel was due to the previous title of the book, ‘Gridzbi Spudvetch!’. No one could even pronounce the words and it did not have a true meaning to it. Also, the book did not sell much and soon Mark Haddon was forced to stop printing them due to a large profit loss. Despite the negatives, the book was written to entertain teenagers aged eleven to fifteen as the events and problems relate to a typical teenager and it is about two best friends which go through crazy, stupid, suicidal events and adventures. …show more content…
Jimbo and his best friend Charlie set up walkie-talkies in the teacher’s staffroom to confirm Becky was telling the truth and eavesdrop. They discover that two teachers Mr Kidd and Mr Pearce in the staffroom communicating in a strange language they’ve never heard before. They had to investigate due to their unstoppable childish curiosity, many teenagers experience. So they adventure through anything and everything related to the two teachers and many times they get caught by the abnormal teachers. For instance, when they were inches from being caught by Mr Pearce as they were searching for clues in his attic, where they found mysterious, futuristic, unidentifiable objects scattered all around. Even from the start, when Charlie agrees to help Jimbo discover the secrets behind the exotic language the teachers Mr Pearce and Mr Kidd were communicating through exhibits the friendship between them, even though Charlie knew the task would be perplexing and risky as they could easily get caught and face major consequences. Boom also presents senses of mystery as Charlie and Jimbo find many mysterious secrets about Mr Pearce and Mr Kidd such as the discovery of unidentifiable objects within Mr Pearce’s attic. Thus, many times Charlie and Jimbo utilise their friendship to resolve problems throughout the
