Prior to the Market revolution the American people mostly resided on farms for survival, but with the invention of factories, the percentage rose from “5% [to] 16%” (Schultz, 2009, p. 177) in just twenty years. Additionally, the growth of the market had affected fossil fuel sources (wood), and animal environments were destroyed by wood cutting and factories water usage (Schultz, 2009). The usage of women and immigrants as a working class brought with its creation of a working class, environmental, and religious issues that transitioned into protest movements for reform (Schultz, 2014).
