Career Option 1: Accountant

I want to be an Accountant in the future. As an accountant you must like to deal with numbers on a daily basis. The majority of the job will be numbers. I think I can do this job because my personality traits, interests, skills and values influenced me to choice it. Accountants should have good computer skills that they have acquired over the course of their education and professional experience. Most of the work will be performed on a computer. Having good math skills are another skill that an accountant will have to utilize daily. This all goes back to having a love for numbers. I like math and computer so I want to be an Accountant.
B. The median wage for an accountant was $61,690 per year and $29, 66 per hour in May 2010. An Accountant has many duties. They should Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions; An accountant should establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures; They need analyze and review budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding, contracts, and grants; They should prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents; An Accountant need analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control; They should explain billing invoices and accounting policies to staff; Resolve accounting discrepancies. I think Accounting is a promising work in the society. “Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow 16 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations” “The continued globalization of business should lead to more demand for accounting expertise and services related to international trade and international mergers and acquisitions.” (Summary). According to the information we will know Accounting has a good future outlook. Most accountant positions need at least a bachelor's degree and certification within a specific field of accounting improves job prospects. Some employers prefer to hire applicants who have a master's degree in accounting and have more work experience. I hope I can get a CPA in the future but I know it is not easy. Because if you want to become a CPA it requires you passing a national exam and meeting other state requirements. To be an Accountant needs many skills. Such as analytical skills, communication skills, detail oriented, math skills and organizational skills. There are many opportunities for advancement for accountant. “Beginning public accountants often advance to positions with more responsibility in 1 or 2 years and to senior positions within another few years” “Management accountants often start as cost accountants, junior internal auditors, or trainees for other accounting positions. As they rise through the organization, they may advance to accounting manager, chief cost accountant, budget director, or manager of internal auditing” “Public accountants, management accountants, and internal auditors can move from one aspect of accounting and auditing to another” (Summary).

The Baruch College and Queens College are offering Accounting major. And Baruch College is the first choice for me to transfer.
D.
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and Institute of Management Accountants are the professional associations exist in this field.
