Success to You Marlee Matlin, a well known deaf actress once said; “You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Look out for kids, help them dream and be inspired. We teach calculus in schools, but I believe the most important formula is courage plus dreams equals success”. In the article Tough introduces Dominic Randolph, a headmaster of Riverdale, and David Levin, the creator of KIPP academy. Two educational leaders of very different schools, who realized failure is sometimes just the thing you need to succeed in academics and life. They can originate from many different factors, family, experience, etc. but it all depends on how you assimilate the information, follow it, and include your own beliefs. I interviewed Sanghamitra Bhattacharyya who is a Senior Research Associate from Case Western Reserve University about her success: “...So I would say success for me would be how I set myself in life, or how I get myself blended to my aspirations; my goal and whether I achieve it or not… it's not always related to the financial part of it, it would be mental satisfaction as well” (Bhattacharyya). Her personal beliefs on success is specifically more for her profession rather than her life success. Her thoughts on how to achieve success can be a little different when the perspective changed from her profession, to achieving life success: “...Following your dreams, and sticking to motivation will lead you to success… and being optimistic… but you might fail, that isn’t abnormal, to fail in your life and maybe you will get experienced with those failures, those are also required [to succeed]; failures in life…” (Bhattacharyya). Her belief about achieving success contains a lot of common factors as Paul Tough’s beliefs. Tough believes you have to have the right characteristics to succeed, like the seven important ones listed in the article.
