Marshmallow Challenge Case Study

The Marshmallow Challenge consisted of working in our small groups, in order to build the largest, free-standing Marshmallow Tower utilizing only a few items including pasta, tape, string, and of course marshmallows. In doing so, I was able to utilize several key components of interprofessional practice including communication, teamwork, ethics, and roles. In terms of communication, I demonstrated this in the brainstorming process of how our group was going to build our tower. While voicing my opinion, and thoughts was important, listening was also essential in the communication process. While our final design wasn’t what I had first imagined, I placed trust in my teammates, which I feel is an important element of teamwork. Teamwork boils down to simply working well with others, and our success in building a free-standing structure was based strongly on that ability. Values/Ethics, while equally important in interprofessional work, was not a huge factor in this challenge. Ethics is based on moral principles, and the process of building a tower did not rely heavily on one’s morals. Values is more based upon “proper” behavior and to an extent this did come in to play regarding our team. Any group of individuals will consist of people on some spectrum being introverted or extraverted. While it is easy to listen to and hear out the more extroverted people, as they are first to voice their thoughts, I feel as though it is important to also respect the more introverted of the group. I performed this by asking the more reserved of our group what they thought, and made sure not to leave them out in the process of building our tower. The final key component involves
