For the first journal I will be discussing a conflict I encountered during football season with two of my teammates, they weren’t only just my teammates though these to gentleman were my childhood friends who I have known for years. We Know each other really well so this conflict I’m going to discuss really took me by surprise that it would turn into something physical and violent because we were all such good friends. Although we were teammates as well as good friends we all lived in different areas. My teammate Cornell who we know as CJ lived-in a predominantly gang affiliated neighborhood. The neighborhood he lived in is a neighborhood known as East Coast Crip neighborhood, their turf represents blue

Although both of my friends were affiliated with two rival gangs which is a very serious situation because it can determine life or death, their affiliation didn’t change anything we were all still very close. It was a Friday and we were all on a bus on our way to our champion ship game against a very good Crenshaw team. One the way to the game Tashaun gets a phone call that one of his members of his gang was shot, now the person that supposedly shot Tashaun’s fellow gang member just so happened to be from the same rival gang that CJ is from. As we arrive to the school both Cj and Tashaun or mad at each other but they argue all the time normally its resolved …show more content…
I looked at it from an interest behinds positions point of view by asking both of them why would they want to continue to fight with each other what positivity is it going to bring is it going to help us win this game or add anything positive to the situation by continuing on the fight which they both agreed that it would not be any positive gain amongst either of them if they kept fighting. I used my actively listening skills which allowed me to perceive the situation from both point of views, as well as not go against any principles and approach it as fair as possible. We all consider ourselves brothers so both Cj and Tashaun was aware that the fight before the big game was wrong and both of them felt that an apology was needed. Some their mutual interests were respect for one another, no retaliation, and to remain brothers after this situation and not let things come between them. The apology was apart of their interests but the reasoning for their apologies were different when speaking to Cj and Tashaun. The Best alternative to a negotiation for this agreement would be for both Cj and Tashaun to understand each others perspectives on the situation, actively listen to one another, and show empathy to one
