Colonialism is a catalyst for patriarchy. It is a gendered process of domination, and it severely affected how masculinity was viewed during colonial Australia. During that period, violence in punishment was seen to feminise men in penal colonies. However, as time went by, the idea of male mateship highlighted the masculinity in conforming into their in-group. This ostracised both women and ethnic others (Woollacott, 2011). Nowadays, this violence has evolved to subtly appear in Australian societies through the form of economy, politics, and symbolic systems (Moane, 1999). It still affects women and ethnic minorities, especially Indigenous Australians. In the context of gender gaps in the workforce, there is a cultural overlook if we compare
