Purpose: To convince the audience why they should pay for massage, Educate and talk to the audience about the different modalities and benefits massage has to offer
Thesis: Good morning class, how many of you all got at least 7 hours of sleep last night? Not very many? Have you ever thought about why that may be? Maybe there’s a lot of stress in your life or your muscles might just be sore from repetitive tasks at work. Whatever the reason, think twice before allowing yourself to get less rest than you really deserve.
Getting a massage may cost you on average $70 but, receiving one weekly has numerous benefits for all people like a deeper euphoric sleep, better range of motion, and increased relaxation. As a Licensed Massage Therapist I relax my client by using long fluid strokes called Swedish effleurage which increases blood circulation, activating the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). Activating the PNS releases endorphins into the bloodstream that turn off your sympathetic nervous system (SNS). The SNS contains adrenal glands and stress hormones called cortisol. Once the PNS is activated you will feel relaxed and euphoric.
Transition: My first reason as to why massage is beneficial is that it helps
Reason 1: Insomnia - As you all probably know insomnia is a condition when a person can’t sleep or has a very hard time doing so. This condition is caused by a:
Ex: 1- Lack of Serotonin-Serotonin is a very important neurotransmitter that is essential to our survival. Serotonin plays a vital role in sleep, mood, behavior and appetite.
Ex: - According to the National Sleep Foundation, more than 30% of U.S. adults suffer from it and 10% experience chronic insomnia.
Ex: - Massage therapy is also a healthy and drug free alternative to help people that have insomnia. Because serotonin plays such a major role in sleep, it is logical to seek ways to increase serotonin levels
Transition: Another reason as to why massage is beneficial is that….
Reason 2: Increased Range Of Motion- A person’s Range of Motion or (ROM) affects how far and in what direction a person can move their arm, leg or other extremities. Limited ROM can be due to injury, scar tissue, inflammation or a multitude of other issues. A massage therapist can relieve these symptoms by using circular friction to break up scar tissues and stretching to increase flexibility. The way a therapist relives these symptoms are by…
Ex: 1- Reducing Inflammation - By increasing blood circulation to a specific area and removing scar tissue, swelling decreases allowing deeper work into the muscle
Ex: 2-Increasing Flexibility- After reducing inflammation flexibility can return and the therapist can further stretch the restricted muscle
