After hardly any planning and saving money, Matt leaves for his journey on May 8th, 2016. Matt decided to go on his trip in the winter months of 2016, with a long time of convincing his family and friends to let him quit school at UW Milwaukee and go exploring, which is what he has always wanted to do. Matt was not a fan of going to school and would always prefer to be doing hands on activities outdoors, which is why his family saw no surprise when Matt asked to leave for five months. “My family has called me a nature freak for as long as I can remember.” Stated Matt. After leaving his hometown of Mukwonago, he drove to the nearest bus station and took the next bus out to North Carolina, which is where he started his adventure. He arrived late in the night so decided spend the first night in a hotel, after this first night he would not see a bed for another five months. After this point, it was many long days and nights in the mountains for Matt. It started by waking up when the sun shined through his nylon tent and into his eyes. He would pack up his tent and start walking for the day. On average he would walk about 25 miles a day, climbing up and down mountains. Matt states, “Surprisingly I preferred to be walking up the mountains because it was less pressure on my knees than walking down the steep
