Matyas Seiber was a Hungarian-British composer born in Budapest, Hungary in the year 1905. Given his family background in music, it is no surprise that at the young age of ten, he began to learn cello and was a student at Budapest Academy of Music. There, he pursued studies of cello and composition. Upon completion of his studies in 1924, he took a teaching job in Frankfurt, Germany. He introduced a first-time course on jazz theory. In 1927, however, Seiber joined an orchestra aboard a ship, and traveled with it for one year. His position in the orchestra was cellist. In 1928, he returned to Frankfurt, where he taught at Hoch Conservatory. He remained in Frankfurt until the fall of 1933, after which he was forced to leave the country due to increased Nazi influence. …show more content…

During this time, Seiber wrote his piece “Ulysses” which was first displayed at Morley College by its choir.
