Long ago on a volcano named Mauna Kea a demigod named Pele Kilauea who rained lava from her new volcanic home. She enjoyed her reign until the demigod of rain, Kamapua’a, started to storm over the lava she creates; therefore, a battle rages between the two causing destruction among Mauna Kea and the land created from the rain meeting the lava. The battle went on for many days;however, Pele and Kamapua'a fell into a deep connection which ended the battle. As the two fell in love, Kamapua’a and Pele split the island, and that is why half of the island that Mauna Kea is found rains while the other does not.
