They say not all heroes wear capes and Maya Angelou was definitely one of those people who didn't need a cape to be hero. She not only was an activist for African Americans, but she also stood against discrimination towards women. Angelou was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 4, 1928. Growing up, her childhood was just as difficult as any child without two parents.
