Everyone does what they do and make the choices they make for certain reasons. These choices are formed through a process called decision making. Many variables will affect one’s decision making process. Variables that influence this process include greed, love, reward, and many, many more.
When it comes to decision making, everyone, at least every once awhile, thinks about themselves and what they can get for themselves. Many people will even lower the status of another for their personal gain. In the story of McCandless and his itinerary, Chris had not thought of the others that would be effected by leaving without telling anyone.
