I always found the media’s perspective of the female body image of a very interesting topic because of how fake it is. The media sets standards on how women are supposed to look and the real life woman wants to look exactly like that. These women do not realize that you aren’t supposed to be 6’1”, 100 pounds, and a size 0. As a girl who grew up around these standards, I find it completely ludicrous. The media does not realize the impact this image has on younger girls. There are so many cases of anorexia, bulimia, etc, just because the young girls want to get this picture perfect look. The fact that there are millions of girls struggling from these diseases all because of the media is pretty sickening. Even when you look at the typical Disney princess movies, all of the female characters have a tiny waist with big breasts. We grow up around that even just watching an innocent Disney movie and that image is branded into our heads whether we catch onto it or not. They used examples of how every princess has the tiny waist, big eyes and big breasted look. Not only the human characters, but the female animals have a stereotypical look to them too. Along with the outside image of women, they have an inner image that females are supposed to be like and it is the common “stupid, flirty” image so woman can get what they want. For example, the Mickey Mouse Monopoly film used the scene from Aladdin where Jasmine used her body and flirting skills to get what she and Aladdin needed. When young girls watch that movie, along with every other Disney movie, they grow up thinking that this is an okay thing to do.
