If I could compile a scrapbook with my answers to the annual "What do you want to be when you grow up?" question, mine would showcase a consistent theme. I've never doubted that medicine is my true calling, and I have always felt fortunate to have such clarity about my professional direction. The initial interest and drive can be attributed to growing up in an environment where my mother was consistently cared for by medical professionals. Initially, the roadmap to my goal seemed straightforward. I soon realized that the journey wouldn't be a simple A-to-B trajectory. Along the way, I've made several stops, each one crucial to understanding not just how I practice medicine, but why it resonates so deeply within me. Currently, I juggle roles as a medical assistant, research assistant, waitress, and monthly book club host. Each position demands vastly different responsibilities, yet they all reflect my friendly and dedicated nature. People often ask, "How do you manage it all?" and it's because being involved is fundamental to who I am. I prefer to explore a broad spectrum rather than immerse myself entirely in one pursuit. The lateral mobility inherent in the PA profession perfectly aligns with my aspirations. My work in urgent care as a medical assistant has underscored the value I find in assisting patients with issues that have clear solutions, yet I also yearn to delve into emergency medicine, potentially assist in operating rooms, and explore other specialties such as dermatology.
