In my paper I will be telling about my different findings at the retail store I visit and the different things that I found gender stereotyped and gender biased. The retail store I focused on was Meijer. I chose Meijer because I wanted to know how much of their store was devoted to children’s toys also was the store equal and fair to the different genders. Meijer is a super store but more known for groceries and clothing which was there two biggest sections in the store. During my visit I saw that not even half of the store was dedicated to children’s toys, infant toys or video games and electronics. In the store towards the back was the electronic sections. As well as girls being famine and lady like. If a little boy was to be seen playing with a little girls toy the little boy would be shamed upon and called many names. Same for little girls. Girls may not have thins as bad as boys but parents would not buy their daughter a race car or a transformer. If a little girl was to ask for such toy her parents would think she is a tom boy and she would grow up to be a little boy. Having different toys and splitting them apart makes the child think maybe there’s a huge differences between the two when there really is not. Montessori felt that children should be able to teach there selves and learn their own way. If the child does not have the right to pick their own toys or look down upon for picking a toy that’s out the norm how will he or she learn. They will always feel that as a girl, playing with boys toys are bad or a s a boy play with girls toys are bad and that’s not fair to the child. Finding girls pictures on boy’s toys was not easy at all. I really could not find guys toys with a girl picture. There were many different races of boys but not girls on guy’s toys. Same for the girls. Unless the toys was a puzzle there was not many pictures of boys on a girl’s box. Many different race, mostly white for the girl’s
