Melba grew up in a family were education was very important. She was attending a all black Horace Mann High school in Little Rock. She transferred to a all white school called Central High with eight other black students. The students are known as Little Rock nine they faced daily harassment and all nine students were just looking for a better education. All students but one finished the school year up at Central High. The next year Melba moved to Santa Rosa, California to live with a family who were members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people and that is where she finished her senior year. …show more content…
They end up having a girl but after 10 years they got a divorce. She then adopted two boys. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelors in journalism and earned a masters in the same field from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She has worked as a communications consultant, a motivational speaker, and as a reporter for San Francisco’s public television station and for the Bay Area’s NBC
