In pages 23-27 of the Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho we discover that Melchizedek is the King of Salem. I believe this is an important part of the story as this is where Santiago gets information on what a personal legend is which is the main point of the story. Santiago asks the King of Salem what a personal legend is to which he replies “It’s what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their personal legend is.p23” Melchizedek then goes through the process of a personal legend and the issues you can encounter. I think at this point Melchizedek describes some of the very struggles Santiago has had and is yet to have making it key information to understand this book further. My favorite quote from
