Yet, Phyllis S. Corbitt, the wife of a U.S. Air Force officer who has been missing in Vietnam since 1967, says it is “a design that has been praised for its eloquence, dignity and nobility.” Mr. Carhart also feels the memorial will be nothing but a “black hole in the ground”. He feels the symbolization of the war memorial is more of an appropriate statement of the political war the country was going through and not an appropriate memorial to honor our Veterans’ who died.
