This act uses comedic ways of getting the major theme across. This theme being that all humans have a routine way of going through life. By relating humans to mayflies it allows the story to have a lighter feel than it would if the whole play was taken place as humans. The whole idea of a human life and human nature revolves around the fact that the earth needs to keep being repopulated in order for the human race to carry on surviving. The act gets this idea across through the specific use of mayflies because they do not live for long periods of time, but in that time all they are doing is “feeding – meeting – mating –breeding – [and] dying” which is much like humans …show more content…
The act follows Ed through his day as he is pretending to be someone he is not. There are multiple instances when Ed hints at himself being a famous painter to other people like when he said “Do you know who you almost killed…Another couple of inches and the world would’ve lost a hundred masterpieces” (102). The theme of this act has to do with people not wanting to be themselves. Humans are always admiring people who they think are better than them and striving to be just like them. In this act that is what Ed is doing. He saw someone who inspired him so he decided he would become the famous impressionist painter Edgar
