The Effects of the Mexican American War on the United States and Mexico The Mexican American War had a tremendous impact on both countries; for the United States, it was a fulfillment of its Manifest Destiny in expanding from coast to coast. For Mexico, it was a financial and political disaster that resulted in heavy debt, war with France, and a dilapidated country deprived of development and stability in government.
