On Tuesday afternoon, Mexico was struck by a powerful earthquake leading to massive destruction of properties and loss of more than 216 lives according to a report by the director of Mexico's civil protection agency. Other than the deaths, a lot of people were trapped under rubble including school children after the building they were in collapsed. The earthquake which is one of most powerful in the country since the beginning of the century registered a magnitude of 7.1 and occurred not very far from Mexico City. The disaster struck on an anniversary day for another major disaster which happened in 1985 and claimed the lives of 90 Mexicans. Throughout the streets which had been affected, emergency workers and ordinary citizens raced to the destroyed buildings to free anyone who had been underneath the rubble. The earthquake was so devastating that even one of the volunteers who are a government employee felt that God was angry with the country and it was just like Sodom and Gomorrah and urged all people to join hands. In the Roma Norte neighborhood, the whole office building had collapsed, and police were scrambling to rescue those trapped in. Several survivors who escaped when the building was collapsing shared how the incident comes fast with only a few lucky enough to escape.
