Mexico: Geography, History, and Issues
Mexico has many beautiful views all over and has several of the most visited beaches in the world. It is known to be one of the most diversely cultured countries in the world. Millions of tourists visit every year but many of the people do not know any of the information retaining Mexico’s geography, history, and issues.
Mexico’s previous territory was larger than the country’s current borders. Today Mexico is only 3,287,612 square miles “making it the world's 14th largest country by total area” (Reilly, Jermyn, and Spilling 11) “Mexico is dominated by a huge central plateau that is a continuation of the Great Plains of the United States.” (“Mexico: Landforms & Climate”) “The highest peaks of Mexico's mountain ranges

The Aztecs were a powerful civilization, they emerged faster than any other culture. The aztecs were also a very “Sophisticated Society” (Reilly, Jermyn, and Spilling 23). Although the Aztecs were known to be very sophisticated, they were also very violent and aggressive. For example, to please their gods the Aztecs would make human sacrifices by removing the heart out of the people's chest, being shot, drowned, and even burned. An interesting fact is that the Aztecs were in need of a home and while searching they believed they would see an eagle perched on a pear cactus and that is where they would build their civilization. They then “constructed a city called Tenochtitlan” (Reilly, Jermyn, and Spilling 23)
The Mayan civilization began around 1800 B.C. to around A.D. 250. The Mayans were an agricultural civilization, they were known to grow corn, beans and many other crops. A little known fact is that the Mayans were “the only one in the Americas to develop a system of writing used to record chronology, astronomy, history, and religion” (Reilly, Jermyn, and Spilling 24).
