I believe there are a variety of ways that people can change. However, the choice to change comes down to the individual. Having said that, I believe treatment in any capacity is a necessity to begin the process of change. To me, an individual needs to attend some form of treatment in order to address the problematic areas of their lives. If an individual is addicted to drugs or alcohol, attending treatment may be the first step for them in addressing the problems in their life. In treatment, an individual is able to attend group and individual therapy to help them discuss their problems. Although they may not be able to fully resolve their problems, treatment can at least offer suggestions or coping mechanisms to help them address their …show more content…
Through the technique of motivational interviewing, an individual can discuss with their counselor areas of their lives in which they hope to improve on. Treatment can start the change, but by continuing to engage in some form of individual therapy or attending 12 Step self-help groups, an individual can continue to work on themselves. Change does not occur over night, and ultimately it is up to the individual. Nevertheless, treatment stats the process of change by making the individual aware of the problematic areas of their lives and offers suggestions on how to improve on them.
