mHealth
The concept of mHealth is due to advancements in technology, health information and services should be on the go and constantly available. Schiavo (2013) defines mHealth as: “the delivery of select public health and clinical information and service via mobile technologies (texting, apps and so on)” (p. 168). With the new technology that keeps emerging many healthcare professionals, providers and stakeholders try to implement technology their patients use for their benefit and to increase patient satisfaction. mHealth and business go hand in hand and when used correctly can be very successful and profitable for stakeholders.
Many researchers and professionals believe mHealth has the potential to greatly impact health communication, health care, health outcomes and might be revolutionizing (Schiavo, 2013). Statistics provided by Pew Research (2015) show that 62% of American smartphone owners claim to have used their phone in the past year to look up information about a health condition (Pewresearch, 2015). The first is interoperability, the ability to be compatible with mobile devices to share data such as patient records, prescriptions and appointments. Second is integration, to become a given and natural part of the patient/provider communication. Third is intelligence, that the mHealth business model should have problem-solving capacity to give answer in short amount of time. The fourth is socialization, that the app is a trusted community for people to share information. Fifth, that the outcomes are being driven by healthcare objectives and return on investment that focuses on cost and access.
