Mia Chong, a student choreographer ODC Dance Jam and NYU School of the Arts, has clearly made an impact on the dance community through her choreographic works. Chong’s dance education early in her career was centralized upon ODC Dance Jam in Snafrisioc which is a company for dancers aged thirteen to eighteen who choreograph, perform, rehearse, and take classes together. Later in her career, Chong attended NYU School of the Arts which is located in New York and is a highly selective arts college that features an extensive and well-renowned dance program. Clearly, Mia Chong has an excellent dance background from both schools and her pieces reflect that. Two of her works include “Ect.” and “The Nestling Set” which both can be analyzed in terms…show more content… The interview is a crucial aspect to this piece and provides an interesting texture to the dance and makes it emotional, passionate, and expresses a clear meaning to the piece of which the audience can comprehend. During the interview section, the dance does not necessarily follow the music but rather there is a juxtaposition between the fast tempo of the interview to the slow movements of the dancers which places more attention to what is spoken rather than the actual dance. There is a combination of fast sharp movements which illustrate a change in tempo within these movements which are complemented by a slow dramatic dance. The dancers definitely use their torsos quite frequently while they roll around and express a certain fluidity with the dance by changing levels and leaning forwards and backward. When the piece transitions to the musical section, the dance matches the tempo and rhythm of the music in unison. The dancers follow the beat with sharp movements and a particular movement, where the dancers kick the other dancers to the back of their heads not only illustrates contact movement, but also dynamics.
