By willingly choosing to address each other’s differences in opinion towards moral and religious matters in a just way, society is able to grow and create immense change. This has been demonstrated in the civil rights period of American history. Although it was a period of violence and intense societal division, the continual attempts by African-Americans and whites to address topics such as segregation and equal rights led to unprecedented reforms such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed racial discrimination and prejudice, and forever changed the lives of all
