The first storyline is about how the offensive line developed its modern purpose. Originally, the goal of offensive line players was to help the ball carrier along and prevent anything from getting in his way. After 1978, line-man Lawrence Taylor revolutionized the offensive line, shifting the focus completely onto the quarterback and their opponents on the field. The second story-line is the one I have already summarized, about Michael Oher's journey from poverty to triumph. Although it is an interesting story, there are full chapters that I feel take away from Michael's story. Lewis' parallel writing structure can make this book a difficult read if you are not fully interested in the evolution of offensive tackle and linebacker in sports.
