In The Evolution of Obesity, written by Michael Power and Jay Schulkin, represents a condensed version of our past and present evolutionary states in terms of our biology and environment and how that decides or rather influences our behaviors and actions toward food consumption. The book talk about why we store fat, why fat has been advantageous in the past, and how our bodies process fat. A great thing that the book did was represent both good and bad parts of adipose tissue. After reading, I agree that we are at a disadvantage with the environment and ease of obtaining whatever we want, whenever we want. I think in order to combat the 30% obese and 30% overweight population we currently have, we will have to make some major changes to our daily lives and be more conscious of what we consume

Because of this, we have fallen into an allosteric load; the more we try and fight our biology with our man made environment, the more problems we run into. The problem lies in the access to unhealthy choices because our environment allows it. If we want a certain type of food, we can buy it; if we don’t want to walk somewhere, we will drive there. We have made a lazy society.

Things of high fat and sweet taste used to be vigorous to get and hard to come by, our bodies craved them and forced us to hunt or scavenge for the product. This adaption is no longer necessary but is still very active and easily satisfied in our environments today.
The way we store the energy in our body was also once an effective adaption. We would store fat in different places so that our ancestors would not die during famine or periods of low energy consumption. These features however are not so advantageous any more as we still store the mass amounts of energy but do not expend it very
