From a screenwriting perspective. Anomalisa is set in a contemporary time or period, in nowadays north America. That is the general setting. In particular, it is mostly set in a hotel room. But not only. It actually has several decors. Either loney places (taxi, hotel corridor, hotel room, bathroom), either crowded, a plane, a restaurant, a conference room. It’s an animated film (bit this is no genre in itself) it’s a boy meets peculiar boy meets girls films, a drama and a fantasy. (backdrop – toile de fond)

Anomalisa has a peculiar structure which is not so easy to outline and define. The setting of the world and introductoin of the main protagonist takes place in a very slow pace but we are introduce to all of the entourage one at a time, starting with his old lover then his family (wife and son). He gets in touch with these close people throug the phone.

He talks bad to the man sitting next to him in the plane, than does the same with the taxi driver, is irritated by «boy » the room service. It is obvious that this man doesn’t like the other. We also understand quickly enough that Michael Stone is very famous but that he is bored. This life is monotonous and fame doesnt make it for him anymore.
