Michelle Obama is legendary, but she didn’t always have everything. She was born on January 17, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in Chicago’s South Side. She was born with the name Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. She was excellent in school. She skipped the second grade went on to attend Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. She did not have a lot of money growing up. She only went to the circus once a year and eating pizza on Friday’s was a treat. After High School, she followed her brother, Craig Robinson, on to Princeton University. School was different for her of course not being white and filthy rich like the other, but she got herself a support base. Although she felt like she did not belong at Princeton because of her blackness, she graduated magna cum laude in 1985. After graduating, She went on and attended Harvard Law School. After Law School, she joined a Chicago corporate-law firm called “Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP” and that was where she met Barack Obama. Her job was to mentor Barack, but she told her mom she was going to focus on herself and not date so that is what she did. In 1991, her father died on his way to work. Her father always said to her “If what you are doing doesn’t bring you joy every single day, what is the point.” That’s is when she decided to leave the law firm and become an assistant to the Mayor of Chicago. After two years on dating Barack, she went on to marry him in 1992 at Trinity United Church of Christ. In 1993, she became executive director for the Chicago office of Public Allies. After that she went on and joined the University of Chicago as associate dean of student services.
