Michigan School Shooting Case: Parents Accountability Parents' accountability is typically not looked at in cases like this, it is important to investigate because most of the time parents provide the kids with guns or they get guns that are hidden in their own house. Parents' accountability is important because in other cases there is a desire to do this because of an unhealthy relationship with his/her parents. Parents should know the warning signs of their own children. Typically, every year, thousands of kids are shot and killed because of school shootings. Millions of kids are in the presence of guns each year. The children responsible for school shootings are usually struggling with their mental health and depression, which can cause a troubled relationship with their guardians. Firearms are one of the major causes of death for teens. School shootings can impact the world in such harmful ways. An example of a school shooting that caused the lives of many individuals and harmed others is the Parkland Shooting. This shooting occurred on February 14, 2018, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the perpetrator behind this was Nicholas Cruz. A well-known mass shooting the US had that killed 17 people and injured 17 others. An additional example of a mass shooting is the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. This shooting is one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history. It was at an elementary school on December 14, 2012, leaving 26 people dead and 2 others injured. He shot and killed his mother before traveling to the school. Adam Lanza had severe mental health problems, his preoccupation with violence, and his access to his mother’s weapons. Firstly, in the Michigan Case, James and Jennifer Crumbley played a crucial role in forming their child’s behavior and failure to help their child Ethan. Jennifer and James Crumbley are the first parents to be convicted of their own child’s crimes. Evidence to support this includes, “On the morning of the shooting, James and Jennifer Crumbley attended an urgent school meeting after Ethan’s teacher found drawings he had made of a gun and bloody figures, but they declined to take him home” (Gillete). James and Jennifer Crumbley could have gotten help for their son Ethan, but they didn’t care about the warning signs about Ethan's desires and mental health and sent Ethan back to class. They refused to get him mental help and declined to take him home. A few minutes later, he opened fire and killed four people and wounded six others.
