This week we have studied Early Medieval Art in Europe, with an emphasis on illustrated books. Two images, in which we will discuss are from the Gospels of St. Matthew. These gospels recount the life of Jesus, and the teachings of the Christian faith for others to follow. Though several gospels were written, only four were included in the Christian Bible. One of these include the gospels “Lindisfarne Gospel” and the “Coronation Gospel.” In this week’s essay, we will discuss the similarities between the two images and the meaning of each.
