My first reason is that kids who are cut from sports team, lose self confidence. For example the article Cruelest Cuts by Dawn Rhodes, explains a story about a Lyons freshman named Nicholas Hernandez. Who decided to try out for soccer on Wednesday, that effort involved trying many other sports that didn't click for him, including basketball, football, baseball, and volleyball. He tried hard and practiced playing the sport, but wasn’t good enough. The harder he tried, and the more time he invested into playing the sport. The more confidence he gained, and the better he got, though there were still kids who were better than him. In fact, a study shows that we are eliminating 70% of our potential talent pool by age 13. Kids develop at different times, and become “good” at sports at different times. If at age 10 you have to pick who is going to be a pro athlete, you're probably not going to get it right. On top of this, stats show that only about 10 percent of elite 10-year-old athletes are still elite at 18. As the athletes develop they learn knew skills, and learn to think about things in a different way. If the kids don’t make the team, they will get discouraged and most will give up. If one of these athletes that is still developing, or hasn’t developed yet gets discouraged, they might try a new sport. That would mean losing a lot of future
