During the fourth period of the postexilic, God placed Judges Gideon, Tola and Jair into office. The Israelites were still doing evil things in the sight of God. The Lord handed the Israelites over to the Midianites. The Midianites were so evil to the Israelites, that whenever the Israelites try to do something positive, the Midianites would come destroy their works. God using the Midianites to bring evil upon the Israelites is a cycle as punishment (Smith, 2016). Evil acts such as destroying acts, and taking possession of livestock. The Israelites cried out to God for another judge, therefore he placed Gideon into the monarchy position. Gideon’s faith in God was weak, for all the punishment that God has sent down.
