In the story "The Answer Is No," it deals with present individual who fall
under the influence of pressure. The author made the reader understand the suffering of the women in our society. He tried to show us the tragic position that the young girl had in the short story "The Answer Is No". Also he succeeded in analyzing the psychology of the young girl, and how she could overcome the trap that the man put her in. The short story is entitled "The Answer Is No" because the young girl revolted against the male-dominated society, her weakness, and also to the future love and the past that she had by saying "NO".
In this story the narrator is a young woman who was sexually abused by
a math tutor at the age of fourteen. Years later he becomes the head- master of the school where she teaches. She loses her sense of independence and suffers as a “traditional” woman. She lives in fear of him The narrator thinks back to the events that had caused her such sorrow. She was fourteen, he twenty-five. Their student–tutor relationship was going well. Then one day, he apparently raped her. He tried to make up for this by promising to marry her when she was old enough, as a symbol of independence . However, she refused when he reappeared when she turned eighteen. He had kept his promise and had come to ask for her hand. By then she had attained a degree of maturity that gave her an understanding of the dimensions of her tragic position.
As a young girl, she didn’t had the chance to say "No" to what was
happening to her when she was twelve . Badran Badwi, is the man who takes advantage of the girls innocence and nobility. He not only inflicts harm on her, but knowing that she is vulnerable he continues to terrorize her and comes back into her life without having any sense of remorse for doing what he did. For example In the story He comes back as the headmaster at the school were she's teaching, and he recognize her and acts like nothing has happened.
