The Two Most Important Ideas (And How to Kiss Self-Help Goodbye)
So I wrote a post talking about my four agreements.
They were inspired by don Miguel Ruiz's book, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
After reading it, I decided to take the six most important lessons that I have listed in the summary and condense them to only four.
And I found that the simplicity made my lessons more actionable, which I love.
However, four still seems like too much to hold in your head while going about your daily activities. Can I condense them even more and make them even more actionable? No, I can't. Those lessons stand as they are.
But, I can give you two ideas to keep in your head at all times that will …show more content…
They know your circumstances and they know who you are as a person. Plus, they can show you your blind spots. Besides, a lot of that secret self-help out there isn't so secret. Most people already know about it and they can advise you which one to use in your situation.
This idea is similar to don Miguel Ruiz's third agreement: Don't assume. Communicate and express what you really want to people. And many agree that this one idea can completely transform your life.
The truth is, organic decision making is the reason why most people don't ever turn to self-help material. They don't need it, because those closest to them go out of their way to help them figure out the best course of action every time.
Here is the one thing I want you to remember when it comes to organic decision making: never keep secrets. Secrets only hurt you in the end.

So how does this fall into our four agreements?
First of all, the idea is agreement #2: Use organic decision …show more content…
Here is the one thing I want you to remember when it comes to taking action: Focus on things that physically move your body.
That means not sitting behind your computer screen all the time!
Get up and out of the house and go talk to someone.
So how does this fall into the four agreements?
It all starts with you. If you want to do agreement #2, organic decision making, you have to be the one who picks up the phone and calls or moves to the person you want to talk to.
You have to take action! No one is going to force you. No one is going to search for you and help you out. You have to make that first step. You have to reach out to someone.
And as I just mentioned, organic decision making leads to the other agreements. Thus, living by the four agreements all starts with you taking action!
So what I'm saying is after you read this article pick up the phone and talk to someone about your issues. For the love of God, don't read another self-help article.
