With that in mind, let’s look at some of today’s top baseball players and their stories of rising to stardom. First up, Mike Trout, center fielder for the Los Angeles Angels. Mike Trout is one of the best and certainly most popular baseball players in the game today and he gives a lot of credit for his success to his father, Jeff Trout. According to Jeff, Mike’s love of baseball goes way back to his childhood when he would wake up every day wanting to go and do something with baseball whether it was catching fly balls, hitting in the cage, or just having fun playing wiffle ball in the backyard with his friends (Olney). When Jeter thinks about his career, he, like everyone else, realizes why his career was more special than any other. “I know they say when you dream you eventually wake up; well, for some reason, I’ve never had to wake up,” Jeter said of his career (O’Connor). This statement is the truth of Jeter’s career, it was a childhood fantasy that he turned into reality. Next, is a similar fairy tale ending story, but with a completely different beginning. Lorenzo Cain, the center fielder for the Kansas City Royals, did not, by any means, follow the traditional path to MLB stardom. In fact, Cain never played baseball until his sophomore year of high school and that is only because he had been cut from every other sports team (Morosi). “If I would have made the basketball team, there’s no chance I would have played baseball, I know that for sure. There’s no chance” (Morosi). However, one thing that one can take away from this story is that they may fail at some things but through hard work and determination, they can make something incredible happen
