I watched the film “Miles Davis: So What”. The film was approximately 46 minutes of Miles Davis and his quintet playing classic songs that ranged from cool jazz to explosive bebop. At the start of the film, we see Miles performing his innovative song “So What”, which featured John Coltrane on the tenor saxophone and Ron Carter as the bass player. What I found interesting about the piece was that the bass was playing the tune, something not commonly seen in Jazz music.
The predominant styles in the film were Bebop and Cool Jazz. Some of the cool jazz pieces Miles Davis Quintet performed were “So What”, “Blues for Pablo”, and “New Rhumba”, all of which were written by Miles himself. Moreover, the bebop tunes that were performed were “Footprints”
