The Peruvian Armed Forces have been included in the process of transformation that society requires to become professional. Army professionalism in Peru began with the arrival of the French mission in 1898. However, it has been more than a century since the advent of the French that the military still does not perceive its professionalism. This paper analyzes the evolution of military professionalism, the variables that have influenced positively and negatively by their developmental, likewise, its problems and challenges.
Samuel Huntington in "The Soldier and the State" argues that an autonomous character of society nourishes which causes military professionalism and the subordination of the armed forces to civil authority. Otherwise, the values and the military spirit are lost and thereby to be efficient.
