As it is stated in the Mind Tools, “having the responsibilities of a leader doesn't necessarily make a person an effective leader (Mind Tools Editorial Teams, n.d.).” I have played several leader positions during my career, but it does not mean I necessarily have a good leadership. Therefore, we have to check objectively if we have a good leadership, of if any, what kinds of leadership we have and we do not have.
According to the assessment of Mind Tools, my overall score is 67. It is interpreted as the highest level among three levels. Mind Tools also offers scores of each trait: self-confidence
7 out of 10; positive attitude and outlook 8 out of 10; emotional intelligence 8 out of 10; providing a compelling vision of the future 7 out of 10;

My overall score is only slightly above the lowest limit line of the highest level, so it means my leadership is slightly better than the average. I agree with the results. I think I did not have a good leadership when I was a university student, but after I started to work, I luckily got a lot of opportunities to serve as a leader of small groups and it was absolutely good experience for me to train my leadership. Among the score of traits, the score of “managing performance effectively” is outstandingly low. It reflects my character very well. I am good at motivating and inspiring people, listening to people and helping people but I do not have a good ability to compel and force people to work. Even if someone could not keep the deadline, I usually cannot lecture him/her and just cooperate with him/her to finish the work as soon as possible. I understand sometimes I have to be severe to the people who cannot work properly, but I cannot be too harsh to people.
Mind Tools recommended me two articles: Re-engaging team members and why the rules are there. “Re-engaging team members” offers the specific steps to follow to re-engage staffs.
In fact, it does not seem easy for me but it states that “you'll need to make a continuous effort

“Why the rules are there” offers more theoretical ideas. According to the article, we invent rules not to limit the activity of members but to “build more harmony in the workplace
(Why the rules are there, n.d.).” These information can improve my leadership ability. Actually,
I don’t think I can change my personal traits immediately, but still these articles help me serve as a leader. For example, having a read and discussion on the article of “why the rule are there” with staffs may lead them to understand the importance of compliance and following the rules.
As mentioned in “How good are your leadership skills,” leadership can be improved by analyzing the traits of oneself and certain learning (Mind Tools Editorial Team, n.d.). Every manager should check their leadership traits and have appropriate trainings regularly.
