Based on the homonymous novel by Nick Wilgus, Mindfulness and Murder's story initiates in a Buddhist monastery in Bangkok where a homeless youth living in the shelter of the establishment turns up dead. As the police are unwilling to deal with such an unimportant case, due to the victim's identity, the case falls onto the hands of Father Ananda, a former police officer turned monk. As he investigates further and further, he discovers some very peculiar events occurring in the monastery, involving drugs, homosexuality and individuals posing as monks. Along with his asisstant, a young boy who has suffered from polyo named Jak, they must find the perpetrator among this web of events, while the abbot seems unwilling to help.
