There is one thing that every teenager is most excited to get. It’s their driver's license. Most teenagers think that they are invincible when they drive but they are as not invulnerable as they think. Is 16 really the right age to allow the chance to get such a big responsibility? Teenage drivers have a much higher risk of getting into accidents than adults. It’s a known fact! Adults just have more experience than teens do. The minimum age for driving should be raised from 16 years old because teens text behind the wheel, they need more practice driving with supervision, and teenage drivers cannot focus on being safe while their friends are in the car. First of all, most teens text and drive. All teenagers have been told the dangers of texting while driving infinite amounts of time but does that stop them from doing it? No, because they all think that they can do it safely. “Studies have shown that teens tend to overrate their driving skills and underrate risks on the road.” (Zernike 1). Teens do not understand the dangers on the road, especially when they text and drive. Many car crashes happen because of someone not paying attention to the road. Some people might also say that they need their license to learn responsibility. “Teens need to take on responsibilities themselves.” (Don’t Raise 2). Inspite of these things, they don’t guarantee the safety of teen drivers. A big thing that parents say is that they don’t want to keep driving their kids around but would they rather have to drive them around for a couple more years or have them get into an accident from inexperience? Even if teens are safe drivers now, they would be even more safe if the age was risen. This would make better drivers and safer
