African Americans are often misrepresented in the media as perpetrators of crime and prone to aggression. The film “Queen & Slim”, misrepresents African Americans as perpetrators of crime and prone to aggression in the eyes of the law. In a specific scene in the film, the two main characters are stopped by a police officer which quickly escalates after the officer wrongly convicted them (Plays Scene). The camera focuses on the expression of Queen and Slim, which is of fear and defiance. While the film powerfully highlights issues of race and justice, the escalation between Queen, Slim and the police officer sheds light on the real fears of many African Americans.
