Emma’s character in the book includes a peculiar power of controlling fire. However, in the movie, Emma’s special power is weightlessness. In the movie, Emma floats and has to wear heavy shoes in order to keep her secured to the ground when necessary. Additionally, the ability to control fire was moved to the character, Olive, in the movie. Within the book, Olive is the character who can levitate and therefore the character’s peculiar powers were switched. Another change that was made through the making of the film includes the arrival to Wales. In the book, Jake sees Emma and follows her in search of more information and later, Emma and Millard capture him and bring him to the orphanage. However, in the movie, Jake meets Emma, Millard, and a few other characters when he explores the home. They travel to the bar and then finally arrive at the orphanage. The last difference that was significant consisted of Miss Peregrine’s appearance at the end of the book and movie. At the end of the movie, Miss Peregrine is able to transform back into her human form without any issues. She is also able to travel with the children on their voyage to find more wights to eventually end the battle! The movie goes into more detail of tracking the characters down.
