I: Ancients Greeks have been teaching us lessons for many years, and we may have not even

realized it. When Zeus's Cyclopes threw boulders at the titans, this symbolized earthquakes, and how

we need to be better prepared for when they strike. Then Cronos, father of the gods, ate his own

children, which immediately teaches us about child abuse, and how we can stop it. Lastly, Hades had

three hags called the Furies, and they would whisper into people, making them suicide. The furies

could be the “little voice” in your head discouraging you. Therefore, earthquakes, child abuse, and

suicide all go back thousands of years ago to Greek myth, and how the Greeks told us many things

through their stories.

The

earthquakes we have are symbolic and are counterparts of Zeus' stories like the boulders falling on the

Titans. “They took up huge boulders, a hundred each, and hurled them downhill at the Titans.” (Evslin

5). “They”, could relate to the earth plates shifting, and when they shift an earthquake will usually

happen. “The Titans thought that the mountain itself was falling on them.” (Evslin 5). If the Titans

think the mountain is falling on them, it relates to when a earthquake happens and people are inside, the

building really might fall on them. “They broke the ranks and fled.” (Evslin 5). The Titans fleeing after

being ambushed by Zeus ties in with when a natural disaster strikes, people will run and flee in panic.

Because of the Cyclops throwing boulders at the Titans, the Titans thinking that the mountain was

falling on them and the Titans running away all relates to todays earthquakes.

P2: This paragraph links earthquakes to the Zeus story by comparing and contrasting how the

boulders thrown by the Cyclops symbolize earthquakes in today's society. Many things relate to

This indirectly symbolizes if a father is drunk and/or

gets very angry with his child, he might kill his own kid. Cronos was very angry that the prophesy that

his son would dethrone him. “So Cronos was very carful. One by one, he swallowed his children as

they were born.”(Evslin 3). Because his children were immortal, Cronos attempted to basically trap his

children in his stomach by swallowing them, which clearly shows child abuse, similar a man hurting a

child. “She hung a golden cradle from the branches of an olive tree and put him(her son) to sleep

there.”(Evslin 4). This symbolizes people rescuing children from abusive environments, just like Hera

hiding Zeus from her husband, Cronos. Therefore, Cronos eating his children, Rhea saving Zeus from his father, and the prophet telling Cronos that one of his sons with dethrone him, all symbolizes child

abuse.

P4: Since Cronos swallowed his children, he abused his children, and it relates to child abuse.

There are many types of child abuse, and Cronos demonstrates a few of them. “Child abuse is when a

caregiver either fails to provide appropriate care (neglect), purposefully inflicts harm, or harms a
