Under the hair section of the Mitty dresscode, it states that male students are not allowed to have hair longer than shoulder length or have ponytails, and that girls can not have shaved heads. These rules are sexist and clearly rely on gender roles that alienate members of our community. Mitty prides itself on supporting the LGBT+ community, and this rule is alienating and ignorant towards the community. Students who do not fall into the typical gender categories, or are still discovering where they lie on the gender spectrum are especially vulnerable and more likely to feel as if they don't belong, and rules like this end up placing them under more scrutiny and shame them into fitting harmful societal standards.
