Hiccup watches them leave from the village's harbor as Astrid encourages him to do something. Asking why Hiccup didn't kill Toothless, Hiccup explains he saw Toothless was as afraid as he was and realizes the mess he caused from being the first Viking in 300 years who wouldn't kill a dragon. Astrid's words convince him to take action and get back Toothless. He teaches the other teens how to ride the arena dragons, then fly their way to the Dragon's Nest. The Vikings reach the Nest using a shackled Toothless as a guide, then use catapults to blow a hole in the Nest's lower base. Upon doing so, the dragons flee from the enraged Red Death, causing it to break through the side and attack the Vikings, setting all of the longboats on fire, including the one Toothless is chained up on, leaving them with no escape. Stoick realizes the scale of the fight Hiccup tried to tell him and curses himself as a fool. He, along with Gobber, decide to sacrifice themselves to let the others escape. However, both them and the Red Death are halted in their efforts when Hiccup and his friends arrive on dragon's back and shoot at the back of the Red Death's head. For Starters he has built up great defenses in the village for the dragon attacks, he is always out front and in the fight. He keeps his cool under stressful situations. And can make clear judgment calls. Stoick is the best example for a leader given his position as chief of the tribe he is a leader. But he looks the part by being big, tough, and very confident and he is in no way quiet. But he lives the seven-army values. He is loyal to his people; he does his duty as chief by doing what is best for his tribe. He respects everyone in the tribe and he himself is respected. Stoick is beyond selfless he will always go out of his way to please his villagers, he even states it in the movie when working in the shop while speaking to his son hiccup. He has honor and lives up to what is expected of him as Chief and would die for anyone of his villagers. He always has integrity and owns up to what is his fault or not. He apologizes to his son hiccup at the end of the movie for not listening to him about the dragons and how everything they knew about them was wrong. Stoick also apologizes to hiccup when Stoick thinks he is dead at the end of the movie. Stoicks personal courage is always present, He will always face fear or dangers weather it be moral or physical.. he always is at the front of his element to give the rest
